By becoming a Member of the RAD you are not only joining the world's leading dance education and training organisation: you immediately become part of a worldwide network of people connected through their passion for dance.

RAD membership has been designed to support you throughout your dance career. Our membership categories have been carefully tailored to suit your needs from RAD Grade 6 upwards.

 

Friend of the Academy – no RAD qualifications required

Benefits include receiving:

  • Dance Gazette (3 issues per year): our worldwide publication, first published in 1930, packed with dance related news, interviews and feature articles

  • Focus on Members (3 issues per year): our publication to keep you informed of local news, events and announcements

  • e-news bulletins: monthly e-newsletter with news, competitions and promotions

  • 10% discount on all RAD Shop purchases, tickets for international events, discounts on selected events and courses

  • advanced notice and priority booking for international events

 

Affiliate Membership –  a pass at RAD Grade 6 to Advanced Foundation

You will receive all the benefits of Friend of the Academy membership, plus:

  • discounted fees on Vocational Graded Examinations from Advanced Foundation upwards

  • JobSearch International™: our monthly e-publication advertising dance vacancies and schools for sale across the globe

 

Full Membership – a pass at RAD Advanced 1 upwards

All the benefits of Friend of the Academy and Affiliate membership, plus the eligibility to:

  • apply to become an Associate of the Royal Academy of Dance (ARAD) upon successful completion of Advanced 2: you will be able to use the letters ARAD after your name (18 years and over)

  • take part in the Annual General Meeting: an opportunity to have your say on Academy issues by voting in person, online or by proxy (18 years and over)

  • enter scholarships, awards and competitions; opportunity to work with world-class choreographers and perform on some of the most prestigious stages around the world

 

RAD Registered Teacher – upon successful completion of an RAD teaching programme

All the benefits of Friend of the Academy, Affiliate and Full membership, plus:

  • eligibility to register yourself as an RAD centre for RAD examinations and have your students’ results credited against your name

  • eligibility to use the initials Registered Teacher Status (RTS) after your name in recognition of your professional status

  • eligibility to use the RAD Registered Teacher logo, our collective mark to advertise yourself

  • opportunity to be included in the Studios/Schools Directory of RAD registered teachers’published in our website ( your authorisation will be required if you wish to use this service)

  • receive promotional materials, advice and guidance managing your own business

  • take part in the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programme – learn new skills, refresh your knowledge or re-focus your career with our CPD opportunities

 

RAD Life Membership

Life Membership encompasses three categories: Life Full Members, Life Teachers and Life Registered Teachers.

To be eligible for Life Membership you must have 42 consecutive years of full membership.

 

Life Members and Life Teachers (non-active Teachers)

Continue to enjoy the benefits of full membership with no subscription payable, however this does not include delivery of Dance Gazette, Focus on Members (if applicable) and Focus on Exams. 

Life Members will need to pay a subscription fee of R370 to continue to receive RAD publications.

 

Life Registered Teachers (active Teachers)

From 2015, all new eligible Life Registered Teachers will be required to pay R845 registration fee in order to maintain their RAD Registered teacher status. This registration fee will include delivery of Dance Gazette, Focus on Members (if applicable) and Focus on Exams.

All teachers registered with the RAD including Life Registered Teachers who are actively teaching and/or entering students into RAD examinations are required to complete the minimum CPD requirement of 20 hours. We do not and will not discriminate, positively or otherwise on the grounds of age.

Life Registered Teachers who are no longer teaching the RAD Syllabus or entering candidates for RAD examinations, can change Life Membership category to become a Life Teacher and will not be required to complete any CPD. Please contact the RAD office in Johannesburg or email: admin@rad.org.za as soon as possible atand we will gladly amend your records to reflect this.
